The Downtown Looper will expand its route and hours in October 2018 thanks to a $900,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.
The Looper, which is run by the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and the City of St. Petersburg, currently loops through through the downtown core, making stops at popular museums, restaurants and attractions.
While the expanded route has not yet been confirmed, it is expected to include more residential neighborhoods as well as the Innovation District, which encompasses the University of South Florida, the Coastal and Marine Science Center, Bayfront Health and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
Expanded service will start at 7am and end at 10pm on Monday through Thursday (and on Sundays). It will run from 7am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Looper costs just 50 cents to ride and serviced around 110,000 passengers last year, making it a complementary transportation option for bike share members downtown.
