ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2018) – The one-year anniversary of Coast Bike Share, the City of St. Petersburg’s bike share system, will be celebrated on February 1 with a free-to-attend community event.
Registration will kick off at 5:45pm on Thursday, February 1 at Park & Rec (100 4th Street S), where complimentary coffee and homemade donuts will be provided by Black Crow Coffee Co, the City’s first officially recognized Bicycle-Friendly Business.
At 6:15pm, party goers will be led on a guided group bike ride before returning to Park & Rec for brews, food, prizes and Coast Bike Share’s Most Valuable Biker Awards, which will recognize the people, partners and places that have played a part in Coast’s year-one success.
The full Coast Bike Share program roll out in February, 2017, welcomed 300 blue bikes to 30 stations across the city, making it easier for residents and visitors to travel around downtown, and access emerging districts such as the EDGE, Grand Central, Warehouse Arts, and Deuces Live.
The official launch followed a successful demo system, which went live on November 1, 2016. Installed to coincide with the commencement of the Cross-Bay Ferry program, 100 demo bikes hit 10 stations in St. Pete’s downtown area, providing a taste of what was to come.
Since then, bike share members in the City of St. Petersburg have wracked up a mighty 86,643 miles on the bikes. This equates to a whopping 3,465,720 calories burned and 76,246 pounds of carbon emissions saved from entering the atmosphere.
